Alo Yoga in Bali: What We Stock & Why

Published by Yoga Republik · Canggu, Bali

Alo Yoga has become one of the most recognisable names in yoga activewear, and if you've spent any time on the mat — or on Instagram — you've probably seen the brand. What you might not know is that you can find a curated selection of Alo at Yoga Republik in Canggu, without international shipping costs or customs headaches.

Here's an honest look at the brand, what we stock, and how it performs in Bali's conditions specifically.

What Makes Alo Different

Alo Yoga started as a Los Angeles brand built around the idea that studio-to-street was the natural trajectory for yoga wear — clothes that functioned well in practice but looked equally at home in a café or on a walk. They've stayed close to that positioning, and it shows in the design sensibility: cleaner lines, more considered colour palettes, and construction that reads as fashion-intentional rather than purely athletic.

From a performance standpoint, Alo is genuinely strong. Their fabrics use proprietary blends — including their Airlift and Alosoft materials — that offer real breathability and moisture management. These aren't marketing terms for standard polyester; the fabrics do feel different from generic activewear.

The premium price point reflects both the material quality and the brand positioning. Alo is not the most affordable activewear you'll find — but the pieces are well made, and the designs earn their longevity in a wardrobe.

Alo for Bali: Does It Hold Up in the Heat?

This is the question that matters for Canggu practice, and the answer is largely yes — with some nuance.

Airlift fabric (used in many of their leggings and shorts) is a lightweight, compressive material that manages moisture well and dries quickly. For hot studio sessions and outdoor practice, it's one of the better-performing fabrics in Alo's range. It's not as obviously moisture-wicking as a technical running fabric, but it doesn't cling uncomfortably in heat the way some compression fabrics do.

Alosoft is Alo's softer, more relaxed fabric blend — it's exceptionally comfortable but retains moisture slightly more than Airlift. This makes it better suited for lighter practice, restorative yoga, or casual wear rather than intense, sweaty Vinyasa sessions in a 30-degree open-air shala.

The takeaway: if you're choosing Alo for intense hot practice in Bali, prioritise pieces made from Airlift. For everything else — Yin, restorative, casualwear — Alosoft is excellent.

What We Stock at Yoga Republik

Our Alo selection focuses on the pieces that actually make sense for how people practise in Bali. The full Alo catalogue is enormous; what we carry is a curated edit of what works here.

Leggings

High-waisted leggings in Airlift are the most-requested piece and the most practical for Bali practice. The waistband holds well during inversions (no uncomfortable rolling mid-class), the length options cover full-length and 7/8, and the construction is seamless enough in the right places to avoid chafing in the heat.

We stock a rotating selection of colourways — neutral tones and selected seasonal colours. If you're after a specific colour that's not on the shelf, ask us and we can check availability.

Sports Bras

Alo sports bras range from light-support styles more suited to Yin and casual wear to medium-support options that work for Vinyasa. For Bali practice, we particularly like the crossback styles — they allow better airflow and work well in open-air shalas where ventilation matters.

Shorts

For hot classes, shorts are often preferred over leggings. Alo's Airlift shorts in particular are popular with practitioners who find full-length leggings too warm for Canggu mornings. The shorter 5" inseam options work well for seated and floor work; the longer options are better for standing-heavy Vinyasa.

Tops and Long Sleeves

Lightweight long-sleeve tops in Airlift are more popular in Bali than you might expect — they protect against sun on scooter rides and in outdoor classes, and the fabric breathes well enough that they don't feel oppressive in the heat. We also carry cropped tanks and classic bralette-style tops in the more relaxed Alosoft.

Sizing and Fit Notes

Alo runs true to size for most people, with a slightly athletic cut. If you're between sizes, go up rather than down — Airlift is compressive and doesn't have a lot of give, so the larger size will be more comfortable in practice and won't feel loose once the fabric warms up.

If you're unsure of sizing, come in and try pieces on. We'd much rather you leave with something that fits well than deal with a return.

Caring for Alo in Bali

Synthetic performance fabrics need slightly more attention in a humid environment. A few habits make the difference:

Wash promptly after practice — don't let damp activewear sit. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Avoid fabric softeners, which coat the fibres and reduce moisture-wicking performance over time. Air dry rather than tumble dry where possible; heat degrades elastane content faster.

With reasonable care, Alo pieces hold their shape and colour well across many months of regular practice.
