Fabric choice is everything. The difference between nylon/spandex and polyester/spandex is significant and worth understanding before you buy. Nylon is softer against the skin, wicks moisture more effectively in sustained heat, and doesn't develop the plasticky, clammy feel that polyester can after a sweaty session. Most budget activewear uses polyester because it's cheaper to produce — quality brands use nylon because it performs better and feels better.

Weight and construction. A thicker fabric traps heat. A well-constructed lightweight short with the right stretch ratio moves with you without riding up or bunching — the two complaints we hear most in store about shorts men bought elsewhere.

Liner vs. no liner. Personal preference, but a built-in liner changes the feel of the short significantly. Most men doing yoga prefer a short with a fitted inner liner for coverage and support — without one, some fabrics shift around too much in dynamic movement.

Length. Somewhere between 5 and 7 inches hits the sweet spot for yoga — long enough for coverage in standing folds, short enough to not restrict movement in lunges and deep hip openers.
