Men's Yoga Pants in Bali: What to Look For and When to Wear Them

Published by Yoga Republik · Canggu, Bali

Shorts are the default for men doing yoga in Bali, and for most practices in most studios, they're the right choice. But there are situations where a well-made pair of yoga pants is the better call — and if you're spending any real time here, it's worth having both.

This guide covers when pants make sense in Bali's climate, what to look for, and which styles we carry at Yoga Republik in Canggu.

When Pants Make Sense in Bali

The obvious question: why would anyone wear long pants in 30-degree heat?

A few reasons that come up regularly:

Yin yoga and restorative practice. Slower practices where you're holding poses for minutes at a time, often on the floor — your body cools down significantly and a pair of shorts can feel uncomfortably cold, especially in studios with fans or after a heavy sweat session from a morning class.

Studio to everywhere else. Bali has a dress code reality that most visitors underestimate. Temples, certain restaurants, and local areas require covered legs. A pair of well-designed training pants that don't read as "gym wear" handles the studio, the temple, and the dinner table without a change.

Morning practice. Pre-dawn Mysore-style classes and meditation sessions happen before the day's heat builds. At 6am in Canggu, pants are often more comfortable than shorts, especially if you're cycling or walking to the studio.

Travel days. Long flights or train journeys where you want the comfort of activewear with the coverage and look of something more presentable. A tapered training pant in a neutral colour is genuinely the most versatile travel piece most men aren't using.

The Two Styles We Carry

YR Men's Yoga Pant

Designed specifically for practice. The cut is optimised for movement — a tapered leg that doesn't bunch or restrict in seated poses, deep hip openers, or inversions, with a waistband that stays in place through dynamic movement.

Four-way stretch fabric with moisture management built in — so even in a heated flow class, you're not swimming in fabric. The fit is fitted without being compressive, which is the right balance for yoga: you want the pant to move with you, not against you.

Available in black and blue. The blue works surprisingly well for the studio-to-daily-life transition — looks less "yoga pant" in a café or restaurant context than black does.

YR Men's Casual Pant

The more relaxed cut of the two — slightly more tapered at the ankle, slightly more room through the thigh, with the same technical fabric underneath. Designed for yoga, travel, golf, and daily life, which is an accurate description of how these actually get used.

Hidden pockets, which makes them practical for anything outside the studio. The silhouette is clean enough to wear to dinner. Available in black and grey.

Which to choose: If your primary use is yoga practice and performance comes first, the Yoga Pant. If you want something that transitions seamlessly into the rest of your day in Bali, the Casual Pant.

Both are Rp 849,000.

What to Look For in Men's Yoga Pants Generally

If you're comparing options, a few things matter disproportionately:

Fabric. The same principle as shorts: nylon/spandex outperforms polyester/spandex in sustained heat. Softer against skin, better moisture management, holds up longer with daily washing. Avoid cotton — absorbs sweat, stays wet, heavy to wear.

Four-way stretch. Yoga requires full hip rotation, forward folds, and seated twists. A pant with only two-way stretch (horizontal only) will restrict you in deeper poses. Four-way stretch means the fabric moves in all directions.

Tapered fit. Wide-leg yoga pants look great in Instagram reels and are much less practical in Bali's heat. A tapered leg moves with you, doesn't drag on the floor, and doesn't trap heat the same way.

Waistband design. A wide, flat waistband without heavy elastic stays comfortable through long sessions. Drawstrings are fine; bulky waistbands with multiple layers trap heat.

The Shorts vs. Pants Question

Honestly, most men who do daily yoga in Bali end up with both. Shorts for hot, dynamic practice and outdoor sessions. Pants for cooler early-morning classes, yin and restorative, travel, and anything that requires covered legs off the mat.

If you're only buying one thing, and you're here for a week of intense vinyasa in open-air studios, buy the shorts. If you're staying longer, doing a mixed practice schedule, or want something that works beyond the studio — the pants are worth having.
