What to Wear for Padel in Bali's Heat: Dress Code, Gear & What Actually Works
Published by Yoga Republik · Canggu, Bali
Padel has a dress code — not a formal one, but there are practical rules that most experienced players follow, and ignoring them in Bali's heat will make you regret it by the second set.
This is a practical guide for anyone playing padel in Bali: what to wear, what to avoid, and why the tropical climate changes the equation compared to playing at home.
The Baseline: What Padel Players Wear
Padel is a sport with roots in tennis, and the outfit conventions carry over. On any court in Spain, Italy, Sweden, or the UAE, you'll see the same basic look: sports dress or skirt (women), athletic shorts and a fitted top (men), court shoes, and minimal accessories.
There's no formal dress code at most public venues in Bali, but extremely loose clothing, heavy cotton, or anything that restricts shoulder movement is a practical problem — padel involves a lot of quick lateral movement and overhead shots, and your clothes need to move with you.
Why Bali Changes Everything
Playing padel in a European club at 20°C and playing padel in Canggu at 30°C with 80% humidity are genuinely different physical experiences. Even early morning slots — the most popular time to play — can be warm.
The fabrics that work in cooler climates don't necessarily perform in tropical heat. Heavy polyester traps heat. Cotton absorbs sweat and stays wet. Anything that doesn't breathe becomes uncomfortable within fifteen minutes.
What you need from your padel outfit in Bali:
- Moisture-wicking — draws sweat away from skin rather than holding it
- Lightweight — less fabric means less heat retention
- Stretch — you're moving fast in multiple directions
- Quick-dry — so you're not soaking through to a second layer
- UPF protection — on uncovered or semi-covered courts, sun exposure adds up
Women: What to Wear on a Bali Padel Court
Sports dress is the most popular choice for women playing padel — and for good reason. A well-designed padel dress combines top and skirt in one piece, eliminates waistband bulk, and gives maximum freedom of movement. Look for built-in shorts underneath (essential — you'll be moving at pace and lunging for shots).
Skirt and sports bra or fitted top is the alternative if you prefer separates. A padel or tennis skirt with shorts built in, paired with a tight-fitting top, works well. The skirt should hit mid-thigh — short enough not to restrict stride, long enough for comfort.
What to avoid: Loose singlets that ride up, heavy leggings (too hot for court sport in this climate), and anything with a loose waistband that shifts during movement.
Our recommendation: The YR padel and tennis dresses and skirts at Yoga Republik are designed with exactly these conditions in mind — lightweight, built-in shorts, full range of movement. Made from our Nylon/Spandex blend that handles Bali heat without clinging uncomfortably. Browse the padel and tennis collection in-store in Canggu or online.
Men: What to Wear on a Bali Padel Court
Athletic shorts — the standard. Lightweight, above the knee, with a brief liner for support. Avoid heavy board shorts or cargo-style shorts; you need unrestricted hip movement for padel shots.
Fitted performance top — a moisture-wicking polo or athletic t-shirt. Loose cotton t-shirts are the most common mistake — they work fine at rest but become heavy and uncomfortable during a game in Bali.
Compression shorts underneath are worth considering if you're playing seriously — they reduce chafing during long sessions and provide a little support during lateral movement.
Footwear: Don't Skip This
Court shoes matter more in padel than in many sports because of the lateral movement involved. Running shoes have grip optimised for forward movement and can slide on the court surface.
Proper padel or tennis shoes have herringbone or omni-directional grip patterns designed for the lateral loading padel demands. Wearing running shoes on a padel court is technically fine at a casual level, but if you're playing regularly you'll feel the difference.
The Extras That Actually Matter in Bali
Grip: Bali humidity affects racket grip significantly. Bring overgrip tape or at minimum a towel grip. Your hand will sweat more than you're used to, and a slipping racket changes everything about your game.
Sun protection: Most courts in Canggu have shade, but UV in Bali is strong even under cover. Apply SPF before you play — you won't feel the burn until it's too late.
Extra dry kit: Pack a change of top (or full outfit) in your bag. After an hour on a Bali court you'll want to change before breakfast or wherever you're heading next. A wet outfit in a bag after — not a great experience on the drive home.
Water: Bring more than you think you need. Dehydration happens faster in humid heat than in dry European conditions. 1.5–2L for an hour of play is not excessive.
